Congratulations to everyone graduating on Saturday! It’s the time of year when we start getting questions about access to the Library’s resources post-graduation. Here are the options available to UMA Alumni:
Physical resources (Books, DVDs, CDs)
UMA Alumni in the local Augusta area are welcome to apply for Guest borrower library cards in-person at the Katz Library. Guest borrowing cards allow for checkouts of book and media resources, and for some interlibrary loan services though URSUS and MaineCat (restrictions depend on the policies of the lending library). If you’re not a resident of the Augusta area, sign up for a Maine State Library card instead, available to all Maine residents: http://www.maine.gov/msl/services/libcard.htm
Electronic resources (Ebooks, Journal Articles, Databases, Streaming Videos & Music)
Guest borrowers (and every Maine resident, in fact) may access electronic resources at home or in your local library via the statewide MARVEL! database subscriptions. To access MARVEL! at home, just log in with your guest borrowing card, or by creating an account (MARVEL! account creation).
Guest borrowers, including UMA Alumni, may use the UMA Library’s full suite of electronic resources in-person only. Just present your Guest borrower card at the Katz Library Circulation Desk, and request a login code to access one of our two public access computers. Due to licensing agreements, UMA Library electronic resources are only available off-campus for current students, faculty, and staff members. This restriction also applies to electronic Interlibrary loan services for journal articles.
If you have any questions, please call the Katz Library Circulation Desk at 207.621.3349 (in Maine), or toll free at 1.877.862.1234 x3349. Again, congratulations to each of UMA’s soon-to-be graduates!
