About John R. Young

John Young was born in Nottingham, England. He served in the British Armed Forces in Europe, India, and Southeast Asia during World War II.  He became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1959. He holds a B.F.A. degree from London University, London, England, Bombay University, India, and American University, Washington, D.C. He presently is the Art Coordinator for Fairfax County, Virginia Adult Education and a certified copyist for the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. In addition to framing and restoration of antique paintings, he conducts art classes in all media in his Chantilly studio.


He is a member of Marine Artists’, London, England, Washington Landscape Club, Washington D.C., Westminster Art Guild, London, England, Springfield Art Guild, Springfield, Virginia, and Vienna Society of Artists’. He holds several local and national awards and has juried numerous art shows throughout the area. Currently, he exhibits his paintings at Festival Hall, London, Collection of Fine Art, Smithsonian, Washington D.C., Waterford Foundation, Artist Mart, Manassas, Virginia, Huntscene, Middleburg, Virginia, and Upstairs Gallery, West Virginia.
